1. Why we verify identity
UtRental delivers equipment worth hundreds or thousands of dollars to homes and job sites without a rental counter. Verifying that each renter is a real adult using their own identity protects customers from identity theft, keeps equipment available for everyone, and lets us offer free delivery and returns across Florida. Checkout is available only to account holders who complete verification.
2. Who must verify and when
- Every account holder before their first reservation is confirmed.
- The authorized representative of a business account. We may also ask for business documents such as a Sunbiz registration or certificate of insurance.
- Existing customers again if their ID has expired, their legal name or address changes, or we detect activity that suggests the account may be compromised.
3. What you give us at registration
Legal name, date of birth, phone numbers, email, home address, delivery address, and the type, issuer, number and expiration date of your government-issued photo ID. Accepted IDs are an unexpired U.S. state driver license or ID card, a U.S. or foreign passport, or a U.S. military ID.
4. Our verification partner
Identity verification is performed by [Verification partner name to be added before launch], a third-party service provider acting on our behalf. After you create your account, we securely send your registration details to the partner and direct you to its verification page, where the partner may:
- ask you to photograph the front and back of your ID;
- check the document's security features and expiration date;
- ask you to take a selfie or short video and check that it is a live person;
- compare your selfie with the photo on your ID using facial recognition technology, which involves creating facial geometry measurements (biometric data);
- compare your name, date of birth and address with the ID and with authoritative or commercial data sources; and
- collect device and network information to detect fraud.
The partner's handling of your data is also described in the [link to the partner privacy notice].
5. Biometric data
- We ask for your written consent before any biometric data is collected. You give it at registration by checking the verification consent box.
- Biometric data is used only to verify your identity and prevent fraud.
- UtRental does not receive or store facial geometry templates. We receive the verification result and limited match information.
- Biometric data is never sold, leased, traded or used for marketing.
- The partner must permanently destroy biometric data once the verification purpose has been satisfied, and no later than 3 years after your last interaction with UtRental, unless a longer period is required by law.
6. Verification results
- Approved: you can complete checkout. We record the approval date, ID type, issuer, expiration date and the last 4 characters of your ID number.
- Needs review: some checks need a person to look at them. This usually takes less than one business day. We will email you.
- Declined: verification could not confirm your identity. You may try again up to 3 times, for example with better lighting or a different ID. If it still fails, contact us and we will explain the options available.
Common reasons verification fails include blurry or glare-covered photos, an expired ID, a name that does not match the ID, or a selfie that does not match the ID photo. We are not able to override a partner decision that indicates fraud.
7. ID checks at delivery
Truck delivery drivers may ask the person receiving equipment to show the photo ID used for verification, or ID showing they are an adult authorized by the account holder. We may decline to leave equipment if the recipient cannot be verified.
8. False information
Providing false identity information, using another person's identity or ID, or obtaining equipment by deception violates our Terms of Service and may be a crime under Florida law, including section 812.155, Florida Statutes. We cancel affected reservations, close the account and may report the matter to law enforcement.
9. Retention and your choices
Retention periods for verification data are listed in our Privacy Policy. You may withdraw your verification consent at any time by contacting us, but we will then be unable to rent equipment to you. Withdrawal does not affect verification already completed or records we must keep by law.
